Tahquitz Creek Golf Course Club house
Hugh Kaptur designed what was opened as the Palm Springs Golf Course Clubhouse on Golf Club Drive. The course was originally opened on October 18, 1959. The clubhouse was dedicated on November 2, 1967. The course has since been renamed the Tahquitz Creek Golf Course, and some remuddling has been done around the main entrance, but the building design remains Kaptur's.
Large beams set at angles give the restaurant roof the curve of a golfer's swing. At the top, clerestory windows flood the interior with light. A breezeway roof connects the restaurant to the pro shop - it too has windows open to the sky to the let the desert light in, but still provide plenty of shade.
Today, the resort has two golf courses. The original Palm Springs Municipal Golf Course is now known as the "Legends" course. The second, the "Resort Course" was added in 1995.
"Since the clubhouse was in the direct flight path of airliners landing in Palm Springs, the roof was as important to me during the design as the elevations. I wanted it to look clean and efficient." - Hugh M. Kaptur
