The palm springs racquet club

The Palm Springs Racquet Club is an iconic institution. There is a road named after it, the Alexanders named their largest housing development after it, you cannot look at a photograph of a 30's or 40's movie star relaxing somewhere that was taken anywhere BUT the Racquet Club in Palm Springs. Even it's origins were from movie stars.
Yet, in the past few decades, the Racquet Club has fallen into disrepair. The buildings are crumbling, the pool is weed infested, the entire lot is fenced off and the City government has seen fit to ignore it.
Today, the neighborhood seems to be having somewhat of a resurgence. The steel houses across Indian Canyon have historic status, the condominiums that abut it are now Class 1 historic sites - there is a new developer with new plans for the Racquet Club property. Will it be resurrected? Will it be what it once was? Does anyone outside of Palm Springs preservationist circles care?
